Carl Grant and Tony Gallagher's friendship started on the outskirts of the underground party scene in South East London, where they formed L.A. Synthesis, also known as Nanodyne Corp /Wave Effect, in 1991. Despite living in different cities, the duo found a shared passion for music that spanned from Model 500 and Black Dog to Kraftwerk and systems composer Steve Reich.

Their experimentation with their own tracks eventually led to the release of their debut single Agraphobia in 1994. The track quickly gained popularity, with its hypnotic hook line and Detroit romanticism resonating with club-goers in London, Detroit, and beyond.

In 1995, Carl and Tony produced Matrix Surfer, a hidden gem of UK techno that combined inventive grooves with second-generation Detroit romanticism to create a beautiful and elusive sound. Although the album is difficult to find, it is certainly worth the effort to experience the duo's artistic vision.

Carl's passion for music continues to this day, as he writes and produces music and hosts a monthly radio show called Serendipity Transmits on Bloop London Radio. He is also the co-founder of Serendipity Transmits 24/7, an internet radio station that he promotes and operates with his brother Kenny Swann (AKA The Barefoot DJ), where they showcase an eclectic mix of genres such as afro, soul, boogie, movie soundtracks, and experimental US deep house/techno. Listeners can always expect fresh and exciting surprises from Carl and Kenny's shows, making them a dynamic and beloved duo in the world of music.
